The Financial Times reportedIn a recent live discussion with advertisers, Elon Musk revealed that in the future,Artificial Intelligence Service GrokPaid advertisements may appear in the relevant response content, allowing brands to simultaneously insert advertising and marketing messages when Grok provides content answers or relevant suggestions.
Elon Musk expressed his desire to make Grok the world's smartest and most accurate AI. The next challenge, he said, is how to afford the expensive GPU computing costs. He believes the ideal approach would be for users to ask Grok questions and for it to display ads while providing specific answers.
It's unclear how advertising content will be integrated into the Grok service, including whether paid ads will be clearly labeled and whether this will affect the neutrality of AI responses. Elon Musk emphasized that xAI will automate brands' advertising processes and enhance overall precision marketing capabilities. He even revealed that the system will prioritize ads based on their visual aesthetics, meaning that more eye-catching ads will receive a higher chance of exposure.
Elon Musk also revealed that xAI is planning to add a shopping checkout feature, meaning that in the future users will be able to complete the shopping process directly on the X platform, further integrating social interaction with commercial activities.
However, while pursuing advertising revenue and technological breakthroughs, Grok's content neutrality and security have also been questioned. For example, Grok previously repeatedly spread the false claim of "white extinction" when answering questions that had nothing to do with South Africa, and laterExtreme responses such as anti-Semitism and pro-Nazi sentiment, and Elon Musk simply blamed the responsibility on "malicious user manipulation."
Despite Elon Musk's stated desire to address the X platform's years-long struggle to resonate with users, many advertisers remain cautious about the platform's content review and brand safety mechanisms. As Grok becomes a key AI interaction tool on the X platform, balancing commercialization and user trust will undoubtedly become a major challenge for both xAI and Elon Musk.
However, if xAI adds advertising content to its Grok service and successfully becomes one of xAI's profit sources, it may also become a reference practice for more AI tools to make profits.
