EA recentAnnounceIts digital game service platform Origin, launched in 2011, will be officially shut down in April this year and will be replaced by the 4 launch ofNew EA servicereplace.
EA originally planned to shut down Origin in 2022, but continued to operate it due to its continued popularity. However, Microsoft recently announced that Windows will end support for 4-bit software on April 17th, forcing EA to completely phase out Origin and requiring players to migrate to EA services.
Players can automatically retrieve their original Origin account name and game content by simply logging in to the new EA service with their original Origin account and password. However, the game archives must be backed up via the cloud or manually in order to be successfully transferred from the original Origin to the new EA service.
Compared to Origin, EA said that the new service can start up faster and does not take up system resources. It will hardly take up too much system memory when running in the background, and it is compatible with operating system environments such as Windows and macOS.
Origin was originally launched by EA in 2011. At that time, the goal was to compete with Valve's Steam service and combine EA's game resources to create a comprehensive gaming community platform. However, it ultimately failed to compete with Steam on a large scale.
