Ahead of SIGGRAPH 8, scheduled to take place in Vancouver, Canada from August 8 to 11, DreamWorks PicturesAnnounceIts animation rendering tool "MoonRay" will be open sourced this year, allowing more creators to use it to create more vivid animation works.
DreamWorks has previously used MoonRay to produce films including How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, The Croods: A New Age, The Bad Guys, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is scheduled to be released at the end of this year. MoonRay primarily uses the Monte Carlo method to achieve more natural rendering effects through stochastic simulation.
The announcement that MoonRay will be open sourced is expected to be published through the OpenMoonRay.org website in the form of an Apache 2.0 web operating environment, and subsequent updates will continue to be provided. At the same time, Arras, a distributed computing framework that operates in the cloud and is used in conjunction with MoonRay, will also be included in the open source project.
