DJI's Osmo Mobile series of mobile gimbals has always aimed to make mobile phone filming more stable and convenient. The newly unveiled Osmo Mobile 8 builds on previous designs by adding two key features, making the mobile gimbal experience even more tailored to the needs of creators.
Key upgrades for shooting flexibility and connection efficiency
compared toPrevious generation Osmo Mobile 7PThe newly released Osmo Mobile 8 features 360° infinite rotation and NFC connectivity. The 360° infinite rotation design makes it easier to capture 360° panoramic shots or low-angle framing, ensuring smoother filming without interruptions caused by gimbal rotation limitations.
The addition of the NFC connection function is to allow users to pair their mobile phone with the gimbal more quickly, especially when used with an iPhone or Huawei phone. After simply fixing the phone via magnets, the NFC sensor can quickly activate the follow mode.
Cross-platform intelligent focus tracking application
Through NFC fast pairing, the Osmo Mobile 8 can activate the follow mode designed based on Apple's DockKit on iPhones, and the "Hongmeng Intelligent Focus Tracking" function of HarmonyOS 6 on Huawei phones, allowing users to achieve smooth subject tracking effects within the system camera or compatible third-party apps.
Previously, the DockKit feature corresponding to mobile gimbals was exclusive to Insta360. With DJI's addition of support, it is expected to provide more choices for the consumer market and promote the development of this technology application.
Continuing the previous generation design, maintaining the modular experience
As for the hardware design, it is roughly the same as the previous generation, integrating the extension rod and tripod into one. The gimbal itself still maintains a three-axis stabilization structure, and the weight is controlled at around 370 grams. The included multi-function tracking module is also the same as the previous generation, and it also has both radio and fill light functions. The battery life itself can correspond to about 10 hours, and when necessary, it can also be charged for mobile phones through the USB-C port.
Market price and launch schedule
The Osmo Mobile 8 has been launched in the Chinese market with a suggested retail price of RMB 898, while the vlogging kit with the DJI Mic Mini transmitter is priced at RMB 997. Availability outside of China has not yet been confirmed.
Overall, the Osmo Mobile 8 clearly builds on the design experience of its predecessor with adjustments tailored to user needs. It allows users to continue using existing accessories and even seamlessly transition to the new gimbal. For creators who are constantly striving to improve their mobile photography experience, it should be a good upgrade option.
