DJI recently unveiled its new generation action camera, the Osmo Action 6. Facing fierce competition in the action camera market, DJI has chosen to "learn from" smartphones this time, introducing a groundbreaking 1/1.1-inch square image sensor and an f/2.0-f/4.0 variable aperture lens into the Osmo Action 6, solving the pain points of traditional action cameras in switching between vertical and horizontal shooting and in different lighting scenarios.
The square image sensor allows for non-destructive cropping, and the variable aperture balances low-light shooting and depth of field.
The Osmo Action 6 features a square sensor with approximately 3800 megapixels. The biggest advantage of this design is its "free cropping." Users can flexibly crop horizontal (16:9) or vertical (9:16) video from the square frame without sacrificing image quality, without changing the physical orientation of the camera, greatly enhancing creative flexibility.
Another highlight is the variable aperture design from f/2.0 to f/4.0, which allows the Osmo Action 6 to adapt to more diverse shooting scenarios. For example, the large aperture (f/2.0) can be used for night shooting or creating a shallow depth of field effect, while the smaller aperture (f/4.0) is suitable for capturing action in bright sunlight or obtaining a clear starburst effect. With the separately purchased macro accessories, it can also handle close-up shooting.
4K 120fps video recording, built-in 64GB storage, waterproof to 20 meters without a case
In terms of recording specifications, the Osmo Action 6 supports up to 4K 120fps recording and 1080p 240fps slow-motion video (which can be upscaled to 960fps super slow motion with algorithms). It has a dynamic range of 13.5 stops and offers a 10-bit D-Log M color mode to meet professional post-production needs.
In terms of durability, it maintains a 20-meter waterproof rating (up to 60 meters with a waterproof case) and is equipped with a color temperature sensor and a water pressure gauge. The built-in battery has a capacity of 1950mAh, and the manufacturer claims a battery life of up to 4 hours, maintaining normal operation in environments ranging from -20°C to 45°C.
It's worth mentioning that the Osmo Action 6 has 64GB of built-in storage (about 50GB usable), solving the problem of forgetting to bring a memory card, and more space can be expanded via a microSD card if needed.
Supports OsmoAudio dual-microphone direct connection
In terms of audio recording, in addition to the three built-in microphones, it also supports OsmoAudio technology, allowing direct connection to two DJI microphone transmitters without the need for an external receiver.
