DJI earlier launched a new wireless transmission device for film and television productionSDR Transmission (SDR stands for software-defined radio), which claims to enable filmmakers to transmit filmed image content wirelessly in complex environments, and is mainly designed for the needs of small and medium-sized filming teams.
The SDR Transmission consists of a transmitter and a receiver. Each device weighs approximately 5.1 ounces (144.6 grams). It can be purchased as a set or individually as needed, and can be fixed with a corresponding mobile phone or tablet device bracket.
As for the monitoring part, it can be used through professional Atomos monitors, or with iPhones, iPads and other tablet devices, and can broadcast live at a transmission rate of 1080p/60fps, with a transmission bit rate of up to 20Mbps and a latency controlled within 35 milliseconds. At the same time, the transmission distance can reach up to 3 kilometers.
In broadcast mode, SDR Transmission can theoretically support an unlimited number of receivers and can remotely control cameras and other recording devices.
Compared to the previous wireless transmission equipment that can transmit up to 20 kilometers for professional filming needs, the newly launched SDR Transmission only has a transmission distance of 3 kilometers. However, the combination of the transmitter and receiver is priced at only US$549, and the price of the transmitter or receiver sold separately is only US$309. The bracket accessories for mobile phones and tablets are only US$49, and the connecting cable accessories for the corresponding devices are priced at only US$10, making it suitable for small and medium-sized teams with relatively limited filming budgets.
Currently, SDR Transmission has been launched in the United States, Europe and other markets, and will obviously become another development direction for DJI to expand its market layout.
