In response to the possibility that the US government may ban the sale of its drone products due to national security concerns, DJI recently announced its entry into the e-bike market with its Avinox e-assisted system. This will allow the company to compete with Bosch, Bafang, Shimano, and SRAM in the e-assisted component market, while also opening up new development opportunities.
The battery module has IP56-rated protection. Its battery health management system provides real-time predictions and reminders of battery self-discharge and health status, as well as active voltage reduction, extending battery life. Even after 500 cycles, the battery can still maintain 80% of its initial capacity.
In addition, DJI also touts the dual planetary gear structure of the "Avinox" electric-assisted system, which enables a compact internal layout of the gearbox, achieving a large transmission ratio in a very small space, and achieving a balance between size, weight and output power while maintaining silent operation.
The "Avinox" electric assist system is equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and wheel speed sensors. In any riding mode, you can activate the electric assist function by long pressing the downward arrow button on the left dial.
In conjunction with the intelligent power-assistance algorithm, the "Avinox" electric-assistance system provides four power-assistance modes: Auto, Eco, Trail, and Turbo. Specifically for situations where high torque output is extremely necessary, the Boost mode can deliver 30 Nm of torque for up to 120 seconds in a short period of time, and an instantaneous output power of up to 1000W, thereby responding to the electric-assistance required for more demanding routes.
The mobile app can also be used to set the electric-assisted system's torque output, starting pedaling response, and response performance during continuous pedaling. The user can also confirm the operating status of the electric-assisted system in real time through the 2-inch central control screen.
Currently, DJI will first cooperate with the electric bicycle brand Amflow PL to use its "Avinox" electric bicycle system for the Amflow PL mountain electric bicycle, which weighs only 19.2 kilograms. The "Avinox" electric bicycle system is currently only supplied to bicycle and electric bicycle manufacturers, and there are no plans to provide it to general consumers at retail prices.
The Amflow PL e-Mountain Bike, featuring the Avinox e-assist system, is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year through authorized dealers in Germany, the UK, and Australia, with a suggested retail price of between €7000 and €12000.
