VESA recently announced the DisplayPort 1.4 standard, which includes support for 8K@60Hz and 4K@120Hz HDR Deep Color displays. While DisplayPort 1.3 supports 8K resolution output, its refresh rate is limited to 30Hz, which is still insufficient for smoother content playback.
According to VESANew DisplayPort 1.4 Standard SpecificationIn addition to enhancing display stream compression technology, it also supports higher frame rates and output resolutions through higher compression ratios. This not only allows 8K resolution image output to be up to 60Hz (DisplayPort 1.3 only supports 30Hz), but also supports 4Hz HDR Deep Color display specifications when outputting at 120K resolution.
In addition, DisplayPort 1.4 also adds Forward Error Correction (FEC) and HDR data packet transmission, while the audio sampling frequency can reach 1536KHz and supports up to 32-channel transmission effects.
The main purpose of proposing the new standard specification is naturally to meet the increasingly prosperous demand for 4K image transmission, and it can also prepare for the 8K imaging technology that is about to enter a large-scale development.
