To address the pain points of cross-platform users, Xiaomi seems poised to unleash its trump card at MWC 2026 this year. Besides the highly anticipated...Xiaomi 17 series global market debutRumors suggest that Xiaomi will also release a new HyperOS 3.1 system update, the most anticipated of which is...The "iOS Bridge" feature emphasizes seamless connectivity. They extended an olive branch directly to the Apple ecosystem.
Targeting pain points in cross-platform device usage: Three highlights of "iOS Bridge" revealed
In the past, the ecosystems of Android and iOS were clearly distinct. Users who owned both iPhones and Android tablets or laptops often had to rely on third-party applications to barely achieve cross-platform collaboration. However, the rumored "iOS Bridge" feature built into the new HyperOS 3.1 update will completely change this situation.
According to current information, iOS Bridge will bring the following three core connectivity upgrades:
• iPhone call notifications and answering:In the future, when an iPhone receives an incoming call, the notification will be directly displayed on a connected Xiaomi tablet or PC. Users will no longer need to search for their iPhones to answer or manage calls directly on their Xiaomi devices.
• Deep integration with AirPods:For users accustomed to AirPods, the connection experience between AirPods and Xiaomi devices will be significantly improved in the future. The system will be able to directly display the precise battery levels of the earbuds and charging case, and provide advanced control options, delivering a seamless experience just like on native Apple devices.
• Cross-system file transfer:iOS Bridge will introduce a wireless transmission protocol similar to AirDrop, enabling fast, lossless peer-to-peer file transfer between iPhones and Xiaomi phones and tablets, completely eliminating reliance on third-party transfer software.
Strategic layout for expanding the European market
If this feature is officially announced at MWC 2026, it will bring greater convenience to "multi-platform users" who own iPhones, AirPods, and Xiaomi phones, tablets, or laptops.
According to data from market research firm Omdia, Xiaomi has already captured a 16% market share in the European smartphone market by 2025. By launching iOS Bridge, Xiaomi can not only further enhance the stickiness of its existing users, but also has the opportunity to attract potential consumers who are already deeply involved in the Apple ecosystem but are interested in trying high-performance, cost-effective Android devices.
The Chinese market version has enhanced its connectivity with Apple devices.
In fact, when Xiaomi announced the release of the Surge OS 3 system update in late August last year, it had already announced that it would take a deeper step in cross-device (including Apple devices) and cross-platform integration.
For users who use both Xiaomi phones and Apple devices such as MacBooks and iPads, Surge OS 3 adds support for drag-and-drop file transfer, multi-window applications, and even unlocking the phone with iPad Face ID, or directly using Xiaomi phone functions on the iPad. If users own both a Xiaomi phone and an iPhone, they can also use the two-way message synchronization function and reply to messages directly through mirror mode.
If the international version of HyperOS 3.1 incorporates the iOS Bridge cross-platform connectivity design, it will attract more users to Xiaomi phones and further enhance integration with Apple products. On the other hand, with brands like OPPO and vivo also working to enable international versions of their phones to connect with Apple products, and Google planning to allow more Android phones to directly transfer files with Apple products via AirDrop, Xiaomi's decision to add Apple integration in its new system update is not surprising.
