After leading the Diablo series through five crucial years, Blizzard Entertainment's famous game general manager Rod Fergusson announced earlier that he would leave the company and embark on a new journey.
Rod Fergusson left Microsoft's game development studio, The Coalition, in March 2020 to join Blizzard Entertainment as head of the Diablo franchise. During his tenure, Rod Fergusson led the team in the release of Diablo IV, Diablo II: Inferno, Diablo Immortal, and the Diablo IV expansion, Body of Hatred, breathing new life into the classic action-RPG series.
Rod Fergusson issued a farewell statement via his personal "X" page: "Over the past five years, I have been incredibly proud to have driven the Diablo series forward and worked with you to create four excellent games. Now, it is time to lay down my sword, say goodbye to Blizzard and Microsoft, and embark on a new journey."
At the same time, Rod Fergusson also expressed his affirmation of the team's future and looked forward to more exciting works in the series.
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox business, also retweeted Rod Fergusson's post, thanking him for injecting "power, spark and vision" into one of the most iconic game series in history, expressing high praise.

Rod Fergusson has not yet disclosed his future career plans, and Blizzard has not yet announced the successor to the Diablo series.
However, with Rod Fergusson's departure, the market and players are concerned about who will take over and whether the Diablo brand's popularity and quality can be sustained. Industry consensus suggests that Blizzard needs to quickly identify new leadership to maintain team stability and product planning, without compromising upcoming games and supporting content.
