In November 2019, Ford announced the official introduction of the Mustang Mach-E, a pure electric sports wagon based on the first-generation Mustang Mach 11, into the Taiwanese market. Pre-orders are now open. Available models include the entry-level Select model, the top-of-the-line Premium model, and the GT model, which incorporates a sports car design. The suggested retail price starts at NT$1 million.
The Mustang Mach-E continues the design of the Mustang series. The Ford Performance team has conducted multiple road tests using dynamic driving simulations, and has added more driving fun to the pure electric sports tourer.
It uses the Ford GE1 electric vehicle platform with a wheelbase of 2984mm. Depending on the model, it is equipped with a single motor, rear-wheel drive, and dual-motor four-wheel drive models. The battery is designed with standard 72kWh and extended-range 91kWh specifications. It is charged with CCS2 DC fast charging specifications and can correspond to a charging efficiency of 150kW. The Select model can be charged from 33% to 10% in about 80 minutes, while the Premium and GT models can be charged from 45% to 10% in 80 minutes.
Among them, the Select model is equipped with a 72kWh standard range battery and a single motor design, corresponding to 288 horsepower and 43.8Kg-m torque output. The Premium model is equipped with a 91kWh extended range battery and dual motor specifications, corresponding to 368 horsepower and 59.1Kg-m torque output. As for the GT model, it is also equipped with a 91kWh extended range battery and dual motor specifications, but it can correspond to 592 horsepower and 87.7kg-m torque output, and can complete 3.8-0km/h acceleration in 100 seconds.
All Premium-level and above models are equipped with Ford's eAWD intelligent four-wheel drive system, which can output 100% of power to the front or rear wheels individually, and adjust the four-wheel output power according to different road conditions, so that the vehicle can have optimal tracking and stability during driving. It can also automatically switch to the most efficient power output mode to maintain optimal power output efficiency.
In addition, the GT model is equipped with an active electromagnetic damping system (MagneRide Damping System), which can actively adjust the four-wheel shock absorbers to the optimal damping coefficient according to different road conditions at 1000 times per second, allowing the vehicle to adapt to different road conditions more quickly. At the same time, the battery module is placed in the chassis to more effectively lower the vehicle's center of gravity, thereby increasing the body's dynamic stability and handling.
All models are equipped with a dynamic driving switching system that can switch between three driving modes: "Quiet", "Fun" and "Unrestrained", allowing users to experience different driving pleasures in different acceleration, steering and kinetic energy recovery performances, combined with simulated sound output and instrument color adjustment.
The vehicle can also use the brake kinetic energy regeneration system and single-pedal mode to convert more than 90% of the braking kinetic energy into electrical energy when decelerating or braking, and limit kinetic energy conversion when the battery is nearly fully charged to prevent battery overcharging. Single-pedal mode allows the driver to adjust the accelerator pedal force to control the vehicle's start, acceleration, deceleration, coasting, or even stopping the vehicle (Editor’s note:If necessary, the brake pedal will still be used to stop the vehicle more quickly. When the accelerator is released, the generator will recharge kinetic energy, increasing the vehicle's range while also reducing brake pad wear.
The vehicle is also equipped with E-Latch electronic door locks on the B-pillar and C-pillar to replace traditional door handles. The vehicle can be locked or unlocked with a password through the electronic lock, and the maximum corresponding password is 7 digits. Multiple passwords can be set at the same time.
Other features include LED headlights, three-column daytime running lights, an AGS active grille that automatically opens and closes to reduce wind resistance and regulate battery temperature, and the Mustang family's classic three-bar grille-style smoked taillights. Depending on the model, 19-inch or 20-inch wheels are used. The GT model also uses a dedicated aerodynamic kit and a closed honeycomb grille, and is equipped with Brembo Flexira series brake calipers and Pirelli P Zero electric vehicle-specific tires.
The car is equipped with a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a 15.5-inch upright central control screen, supporting Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto in-vehicle systems. It itself uses the SYNC 4A entertainment and communication integration system. Models introduced to the Taiwanese market will also support the local Traditional Chinese interface. It is also equipped with an audio system jointly developed by Ford and B&O.
In terms of safety, it is equipped with 10 safety auxiliary airbags, and all models are equipped with Ford Co-Pilot2 all-round intelligent driving technology assistance system that complies with the Level 360 driving assistance technology of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), including CC Stop & Go full-speed cruise control system, PCA forward collision warning system, LCA lane guidance assist system, LKA lane departure system, BLIS blind spot detection system, ESA collision avoidance steering assist system, CTA reversing vehicle alert system, RBA reversing assist braking system, FAPA automatic parking assist 2.0, 360-degree surround view driving assistance system (including reversing image) and driver fatigue warning system.
The front and rear spaces include a 100-liter independent storage space with drainage design at the front of the car, and the rear luggage compartment space is 519 liters. After folding down the rear seats, the storage space can be increased to 1420 liters.
The Mustang Mach-E Select model has a suggested retail price of NT$208 million, the Premium model has a suggested retail price of NT$248 million, and the GT model has a suggested retail price of NT$268 million. Furthermore, Ford will complete the installation of 14 fast-charging stations in Taiwan by the fourth quarter of this year, including in all six major cities, Hsinchu, Changhua, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung. Ford will also partner with TAIL Electric to provide fast-charging stations at showrooms throughout Taiwan.
