Published by the US Patent and Trademark Office on March 3 this yearDesign patent approvedIt seems that Google may be preparing to launch a foldable phone with a more compact body and a vertically foldable screen.
The design patent describes a device with a design similar to a traditional folding phone, featuring a flexible screen that can be folded to fit more easily into a pocket. The patent also appears to mention that Google will utilize a dedicated protective layer to minimize the visible crease on the screen.
It is currently unclear whether Google plans to use this patent as a basis to launch a new design of a foldable screen phone.
Prior to this, Google has launched two foldable screen phones, the Pixel Fold and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Both adopt the traditional book-like left-right opening mode. Therefore, many people speculate that Google may still launch designs similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Motorola RAZR series, or Xiaomi's MIX Flip.
In previous news, Google also reported thatCodenamed "Jumbojack", possibly launching a foldable phone similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Google previously reportedly developed a foldable phone codenamed "Passport," which later became the Pixel Fold, sold only in select markets like the US. Therefore, the possibility of Google releasing a phone with a vertically folding screen is not low.
