In testimony before the courtPhil Harrison, the former head of Stadia, said that he had proposed the idea of cooperating with Tencent to acquire Epic Games during his tenure, and by jointly owning game assets including "Fortnite", he would enhance Google's important position in the game market.
In July 2018, Phil Harrison proposed a plan within Google, including collaborating with Tencent and jointly acquiring Epic Games or holding shares in it. The goal was to strengthen Google's development advantages in the gaming market by leveraging Epic Games' influence in the market.
Since Tencent currently holds approximately 40% of Epic Games' shares, and Sony also holds approximately 5%, Google may only need to invest a certain amount of money and reach a cooperation agreement with Tencent to jointly own Epic Games, a game company with a market value of more than US$310 billion, and at the same time obtain games including "Fornite" and assets including the Unreal Engine game engine.
However, even if Google and Tencent reach a cooperation agreement, whether they can convince Epic Games to give up more shares is probably another challenge.
