The Daily Mail reported that the UK began building a dedicated drone highway "lane" between Reading, a borough in Berkshire, and Coventry in the West Midlands at the end of November last year, hoping to speed up drone delivery efficiency through this 11-mile (about 165-kilometer) route.
This high-speed "corridor" is expected to open this summer and will be built by drone service provider Altitude Angel. It will connect towns such as Oxford, Rugby and Milton Keynes between Reading and Coventry, and is expected to allow drones to fly quickly in airspace at a vertical altitude of about 400 feet (about 123 meters) above the ground.
Because it is sufficiently far from the ground, drones can fly at high speeds with minimal interference, without affecting ground traffic or even the safety of regular civilian aircraft. This "channel" serves as a dedicated flight path for drones, enabling them to deliver cargo or medicine.
To ensure the normal flight operations of the drones, Altitude Angel set up a control tower along the route of this "channel" and installed numerous sensor components, allowing the drones to establish accurate virtual maps and avoid collisions with each other.
