Continuing its transparent design language, Nothing launched its first wireless headphones, Headphone (1), which boast up to 35 hours of active noise reduction battery life, support for spatial audio and Hi-Res Audio high-resolution audio playback, and are tuned by British high-end audio brand KEF. It attempts to create a unique style and high-quality listening experience at a price of £299, and can also serve as an alternative to Apple AirPods Max.
Continuing the transparent design, injecting mixed metal elements
The Headphone (1) adopts Nothing's recognizable transparent structure design, and combines an aluminum frame with visible structural parts. The outer ring of the earmuffs is designed in an oval shape to show the internal acoustic structure. The overall weight is only about 329 grams, which is about 50 grams less than AirPods Max, making it more user-friendly for long-term wear.
The body is available in white and black, with PU leather ear pads and headband padding. The design emphasizes sweat and oil resistance, which is easy to clean, but the ear pads are still not replaceable. In terms of battery life, Nothing claims that it can be used continuously for 35 hours with ANC active noise reduction mode turned on, and up to 80 hours with ANC active noise reduction mode turned off. It also supports fast charging function that can be used for 5 hours in 2.5 minutes.
Headphone (1) will be available on July 7thNothingPhone (3)Pre-orders are open at the same time and it will also be officially available from July 7th, with a suggested retail price of £15.
Physical control design: scroll wheel + lever + custom button
Nothing chose to abandon the touch panel in favor of a more intuitive physical control combination to prevent user errors, which includes a volume wheel (which can be pressed to switch between ANC active noise reduction and transparency mode), a sliding audio lever (for song switching and fast forward/rewind), a set of shortcut function keys (preset to call the voice assistant, or the corresponding Essential Space application of Nothing), and a Bluetooth button for pairing.
When used with Nothing Phone (3), Headphone (1) can automatically switch to the most recently played audio app, supporting mainstream platforms such as Audible, SoundCloud, Patreon, etc., without having to manually operate the phone.
The KEF acoustic team participated in the tuning, supporting Hi-Res Audio and spatial audio
In terms of sound quality, the Headphone (1) is equipped with Nothing's self-developed 40mm dynamic driver, supports Hi-Res Audio high-resolution audio playback format, Spatial Audio spatial audio (including head tracking function), and has an ANC active noise reduction system driven by four microphones. It also supports dual-device pairing function.
Nothing has also collaborated with the British high-end audio brand KEF to tune the sound, making detailed adjustments to the three modes of general playback, noise reduction and spatial audio, and is committed to restoring the original sound of the music.
With the new version of Nothing X App, it supports 8-band EQ and custom function keys
The Nothing X App, which was updated simultaneously this time, adds an 8-band EQ adjustment function and adds custom options for headphone shortcut buttons, including switching EQ modes, waking up the AI assistant service, and turning on spatial audio.
