Content distribution service provider Cloudflare announced earlierGlobal Internet traffic trends in 2024, the overall traffic increased by 17.2% compared to the previous year, and Google is still the operator with the highest Internet traffic in the world, and the United States is still the main source of global robot (bot) traffic.
The report also pointed out that Internet traffic growth remained slow in the first half of 2024, but began to increase after mid-August and continued to increase until November, with the growth rate roughly similar to the previous one or two years.
The largest source of bot traffic still comes from the United States, primarily due to the many internet services provided by American companies. This accounts for 34.6%, followed by Germany at 6.8%, Iran, China, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Of this US bot traffic, Amazon accounts for approximately 12.7%, while Google accounts for 7.8%, with web crawlers generating the highest percentage of traffic.
In recent years, the number of AI robots used to mine online training data has been increasing in the development of artificial intelligence technology. The robot traffic activity of TikTok's parent company ByteDance was the highest at the beginning of the year, and Anthropic's robot traffic also experienced multiple peaks.
As for the source of traffic, the majority is currently generated through mobile devices, accounting for 41.3%, of which iOS devices account for about one-third, and the rest are almost all Android devices. At the same time, in regions with higher gross national incomes such as the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, etc., iOS devices almost always generate more network traffic, while Android devices are mostly used in Africa, Asia and South America.
In terms of browsers, Google's Chrome is still the most widely used, accounting for 65.8%, Apple's Safari accounts for about 15.5%, Microsoft's Microsoft Edge accounts for about 6.9%, and Mozilla's Firefox accounts for only 4%.
Google services still dominate the search engine market, accounting for 88% of search traffic, while Yandex accounts for only 3.1%, Baidu only 2.7%, Microsoft's Bing only 2.6%, and DuckDuckGo, which prides itself on emphasizing user privacy and security, only 0.9%.
In addition, Cloudflare data shows that the country with the fastest Internet access in the world is Spain, with a download speed of up to 292.6 Mbps and an upload speed of 192.6 Mbps. The average Internet download speed of the top ten countries and regions is above 200 Mbps.
