According to data from Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the number of doctors in Taiwan is such that on average, each doctor needs to serve at least 500 patients, while in OECD member countries, the average number of doctors serving 3.6 patients is 1000. Therefore, in the face of the global shortage of medical personnel,Chi Mei HospitalStarting from the end of 2023, the development will be based on Microsoft Azure OpenAI services to create a series of "A+" Copilot applications, including "A+ Physician", "A+ Kidney Knight", "A+ Nurse", "A+ Pharmacist", "A+ Nutritionist", etc., to help medical staff improve work efficiency and further optimize the operation process.
Currently, the majority of Chi Mei Hospital's medical staff use Copilot. Two-thirds of the 95 pharmacists use it, while more than half of the approximately 2000 nurses do. Furthermore, one-third of Chi Mei Hospital's 700 physicians use Copilot to assist with diagnosis and treatment, and two-thirds of the 20 nutritionists use it to improve work efficiency.
For example, it used to take Chi Mei Hospital physicians an average of one hour to write a complete medical report. Now, with the help of the "A+ Physician" Copilot service, it can be completed in just 15 minutes. Furthermore, after using the "A+ Pharmacist" Copilot service, pharmacists can now serve 15 patients per day, up from 30. And after using the "A+ Nurse" Copilot service, nurses have reduced the time it takes to compile bed handover records from 10 to 20 minutes to under 5 minutes.
In June of this year, the Copilot service has been used over 3270 times by 4 medical personnel. Chi Mei Hospital plans to provide this digital assistant to more medical professionals in the future to improve medical efficiency and ensure patient safety, thereby achieving digital transformation in the medical industry.
