The EOS-M series is Canon's first mirrorless camera product. At that time, it was mainly facing competitive pressure from brands including Sony with mirrorless design camera products, so it launched this product as a market competitor.
However, at the time, Canon was still focusing on traditional mirrorless cameras, and therefore used the EOS-M series as a testbed. Not only was the sensor size limited by the M-mount design, which only supported APS-C format films, but the selection of interchangeable lenses was also limited. Canon continues to face competition from rival brands in mirrorless camera products. In particular, Sony has abandoned the development of traditional mirrorless models and is fully competing in the market with mirrorless and full-frame camera products.
