In response to the growing number of people engaging in virtual reality content creation in recent years, Canon has also followed this market trend and launched a special lens that can be used to meet the needs of virtual reality content creation, and is compatible with RF mount models.
The most notable feature of this lens is its dual-lens fisheye lens array, which allows it to capture the necessary VR footage in a single shot. It can also be used for live streaming and video capture. For filming purposes, Canon also offers the EOS VR Utility software (available at an additional cost) and the EOS VR Plus expansion tool for Adobe Premier Pro.
Among them, the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE adopts a 10-group, 12-element lens composition, with a minimum shooting distance of 20mm. In addition, a polarizing filter can be installed behind the lens to reduce the impact of excess light on shooting. At the same time, the lens itself also adopts a weather-proof design.
In addition to being only compatible with the RF mount, this lens can currently only be used to shoot with the EOS R5, and support will not be added until a firmware update is released in December of this year. The suggested retail price is US$12.
