It is said that ByteDance has quietly acquired several game studios in the past few months and obtained exclusive distribution rights for several games. It also continues to recruit talents from outside and plans to build a team of more than 1000 people to enter the mobile game market, and is expected to challenge Tencent's market position in China.
According to relevant sources, ByteDance plans to launch two game titles this spring, targeting players in China and overseas markets. The games it will promote will cover non-casual games as well as heavy-duty gaming experiences.
Founded in March 2012, ByteDance has since launched services such as Toutiao, Douyin, and Xigua Video. It also acquired Musical.ly and subsequently merged it with TikTok, the overseas version of Douyin, to expand into the short video market overseas. Last year, it also acquired the hardware and software technical personnel and related assets of Smartisan Technology's Nut phone division, further expanding its presence in the mobile phone market.
Currently, Douyin, including its overseas version TikTok, has accumulated more than 10 billion users and more than 4 million daily active users, thus forming a very large user platform market. It is expected that this entry into the gaming market will be able to obtain greater revenue opportunities and allow more gaming content to enter different user markets.
