After announcing layoffs at its virtual reality business Pico in early November this year, ByteDance earlier announced that it would adjust the organizational scale of its gaming business Nuverse, and also confirmed that the gaming business would focus more on innovative content and related technology research and development.
According to reports, ByteDance's organizational size adjustment for Chaoxi Guangnian may affect about 700 people. At the same time, this adjustment will prevent the development of the gaming business from the previous resource dispersion situation, thereby focusing on more developed and innovative game content.
Founded in 2019, Chaoxi Guangnian currently launches games including "Marvel Snap", "RO Ragnarok Online: Birth of a New Generation", and "One Piece: Burning Blood" through content licensing. It also includes games such as "Core", "Planet: Reboot", "Flower of the Mountain Heart Moon", and "Codename: Spark".
After this business adjustment, it is uncertain which game works will be affected. Relevant news indicates that games that are currently online and have received good market response will most likely continue to be maintained, but may be further split and sold. As for game works that have not yet been launched, most of them will be cancelled.
Although ByteDance's cumulative revenue reached approximately $540 billion in the first half of this year, significantly exceeding Tencent's $414 billion, its gaming presence clearly lags behind Tencent and NetEase. Following a realignment of its gaming and virtual reality businesses, ByteDance is likely to prioritize its existing Douyin (TikTok) and TikTok services in overseas markets, while also anticipating continued expansion of its e-commerce business.
