Broadcom announced a partnership withAI startup CAMB.AIWe have established a partnership to jointly develop a brand-new AI chipset. The key feature of this chipset is its ability to perform real-time audio translation, dubbing, and audio description tasks "entirely on-device," without relying on cloud connections.
Integrates real-time translation and scene description, and locks accessibility features.
Broadcom and CAMB.AI emphasize that because all processing is done locally, this solution will deliver an ultra-low latency experience, significantly enhance content processing privacy, and substantially reduce reliance on wireless bandwidth resources.
Another highlight of this collaboration is "audio description." In a demo video showcased by the official team (using a clip from the Pixar film *Ratatouille*), the AI not only translates dialogue in real time but also describes scenes unfolding on screen (e.g., rats running around in the kitchen) in multiple languages. This feature is clearly of great value to users with vision issues.
Performance still needs to be tested in practice, but CAMB.AI technology has been adopted by the National Association of Motorsports (NASM).
However, the report also cautioned that the demo video shown was a strictly controlled and edited clip, and the performance and accuracy of this technology in real-world scenarios remain to be seen.
Nevertheless, CAMB.AI's voice model technology has been adopted by organizations such as NASCAR, Comcast, and Eurovision.
It is expected to support 150 languages, but the release date is yet to be determined.
Both parties claim that the chip will be able to support on-device translation of "more than 150 languages" in the future.
As for when TVs or other devices equipped with this chip will be available on the market, Broadcom points out that the technology is still in the testing phase and it is expected to take some time before it is actually introduced into commercial products.
This collaboration represents Broadcom's latest strategic move in the field of AI, and Broadcom only recently announced...Partnership with OpenAIThis will assist the latter in producing its self-developed AI chips.
