During VMware Explore 2025, Broadcom announced that it has become a strategic supplier of virtualization software solutions to Walmart, the world's largest retailer. With VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) at its core, Broadcom will help Walmart build a modern infrastructure encompassing private cloud and edge computing.

Digital Infrastructure Transformation in the Retail Industry
Walmart has long embraced a "people-centric, technology-driven" retail strategy, integrating physical stores, e-commerce platforms, and online services to become a large-scale omnichannel retailer. The introduction of Broadcom's VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure represents Walmart's commitment to further enhance its globally distributed cloud platform, ensuring consistency and reliability from back-end operations to the front-end consumer experience.
Broadcom emphasized that by introducing the VCF infrastructure, Walmart will be able to achieve higher agility and scalability in deployment, simplify operations, improve security protection, and further shorten the preparation time required to launch innovative services.
Four key benefits
According to both parties, Walmart's introduction of VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure will bring four key benefits:
• Agility and scalability:The infrastructure can quickly respond to different market demands and can independently expand computing and storage resources.
• Reduce operational complexity:Through centralized software and system updates, hardware and management burdens are reduced, and overall operational efficiency is improved.
• Simplify workload migration:Whether it's a virtual machine or a containerized application service, you can enjoy policy-driven security management and cloud scalability.
• Strengthening security and resilience:Through automated and centralized patching, combined with an immutable data snapshot mechanism, retail operations can be quickly restored, reducing the risk of operational interruptions.
Broadcom plays a new role in the retail industry
Paul Turner, vice president of Broadcom's VMware Cloud Foundation product division, noted that Walmart's designation as a designated strategic supplier not only recognizes the value of Broadcom's software but also highlights the critical role VCF plays in global retail innovation and development. He also emphasized that this private cloud infrastructure will not only help Walmart optimize resource management but also accelerate the rollout of innovative services, thereby driving an upgrade in the omnichannel experience.
