Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman"Power On" columnIt was mentioned that Apple might have announced an iPad model with a size increased to 14 inches or larger this year.
However, the product's launch was ultimately delayed due to the increased cost of large-size OLED display panels, though rumors persist that it will launch in the first quarter of 2024. Prior to this, market rumors had persisted that Apple was planning to release an iPad with a larger screen size, and that it might even partner with display panel manufacturers like BOE and LG to supply the display panel components needed for the larger iPad.
Currently, Apple's largest iPad model is the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is basically similar to the 13.3-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. If Apple launches an iPad model with a size increased to 14 inches or above, it will obviously further blur the boundaries between iPad and MacBook series models.
However, judging from Apple's previously proposed product positioning, it actually still makes a clear distinction between the iPad and the MacBook (tablet and laptop). The iPad is suitable for intuitive touch operations and simple workload usage modes, while the MacBook is suitable for more complex operations and a more traditional laptop experience. However, the two can actually be used as complementary or extended. For example, the iPad can be used as an external monitor or as a drawing tablet for collaborative work. As for the MacBook, it can take over unfinished work on the iPad, such as moving the initial video editing on the iPad to the MacBook for detailed editing.
If Apple plans to launch an iPad model with a larger screen size next, it may be designed based on the iPad Pro level. Just like the current iPad Pro level only offers a 12.9-inch model specification, it is more suitable for use as an "extended screen" for the MacBook.
In addition to Apple, many companies have already launched larger tablet devices. For example, Samsung announced last year that it would launch a 14.6-inch tablet.Galaxy Tab S8 UltraThis year, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra with the same size design has been updated. In the past, the Galaxy View series devices with an 18.4-inch screen design were also provided for home use needs.
