Regarding Heroes of the Storm, which officially launched on June 2015, 6 and has now reached its 2th anniversary, Blizzard Entertainment stated that it will not continue to introduce new paid purchase items, such as new heroes, cosmetics, etc., but emphasized that it will continue to operate the game, so the gaming rights of existing players will not be affected.
According to Blizzard Entertainment, Heroes of the Storm will follow the same operating model as classic games like StarCraft. In addition to continuing to provide server connection operations, it will continue to release seasonal content and hero rotations. At the same time, it will also adjust the balance of game play intensity depending on the situation. Future updates will focus on system maintenance and bug fixes.
However, it has been confirmed that no new characters or new appearance content will be released in the future, but the in-game store will continue to be open for players to pay to purchase the hero characters or appearance content that have already been released.
To thank players for their support, Blizzard Entertainment said that it will provide all players with the rare epic mount, the Mystic Lizard, through the next update.
Heroes of the Storm was announced by Blizzard Entertainment at the BlizzCon event in November 2013, and entered closed beta testing in January 11. The official version was launched in June of the same year, becoming Blizzard Entertainment's first multiplayer online battle arena game. However, Blizzard Entertainment does not consider Heroes of the Storm to be a competitor to Valve's DOTA 2015 or Riot Games' League of Legends (LOL), as it fundamentally involves a different gameplay model.
However, looking at the game's origins, Heroes of the Storm does share some connections with both DOTA 2 and League of Legends. For example, DOTA 2's predecessor, DOTA, was based on the custom map from Warcraft III: Frozen Hegemony. Valve subsequently acquired the development rights, forcing Blizzard Entertainment to adjust its name to "Blizzard DotA." The earliest design for League of Legends was also based on Warcraft III: Frozen Hegemony, which subsequently gained widespread player support and spawned more gameplay content.
As for the announcement that no new characters and other content will be released, it seems to mean that Blizzard Entertainment's future development focus will not be on "Heroes of the Storm", but only to maintain the normal operation of the game.
