Although TCL in late February this yearNo longer cooperating with BlackBerry to license the production of mobile phone products, but BlackBerry has apparently partnered with startup OnwardMobility to license its phones, allowing BlackBerry-branded phones to continue to be sold in the market.
According to OnwardMobility, it has obtained the development, design, and sales authorization for BlackBerry-branded mobile phones, and is expected to launch new BlackBerry-branded mobile phones as early as the first half of 2021. These phones will include BlackBerry's classic QWERTY physical key design and will also support 5G connectivity.
In addition, OnwardMobility CEO Peter Franklin also emphasized that he will work closely with BlackBerry and expects that BlackBerry's security encryption technology will be applied to the new phone, while maintaining the "secure" impression that BlackBerry-branded phones have given people in the past.
In the future, new BlackBerry-branded phones will still be assembled by Foxconn's subsidiary FIH Mobile, but it is currently unclear whether the new BlackBerry-branded phones will still be built on the Android platform.
