To prevent accidents involving its shared scooters in busy traffic areas due to users operating them too fast, BirdAnnounceBy using positioning technology, the company's shared scooters will be limited to a maximum speed of 8 miles per hour (about 12.87 kilometers per hour) when traveling through specific commuting areas.
According to Bird, since riding scooters at high speeds in busy traffic areas is often prone to accidents, it uses positioning technology to demarcate specific commuting zones so that its shared scooters will automatically limit their maximum speed when passing through these areas to avoid dangers caused by human factors.
This feature will also mark speed-restricted areas through the Bird official app, allowing users to know in advance which sections of road may have maximum speed limits when planning their routes, allowing them to prepare in advance.
Currently, this feature will be launched in Miami, Marseille, France, and Madrid, Spain. Bird will then work with local governments and community organizations to continue to promote this feature to more than 250 urban areas where Bird currently has a presence. It is expected to target areas with large crowds, such as parks and shopping malls. Speed limits will also be set for areas with heavy traffic near schools.
