AYANEO, a company focused on developing handheld gaming consoles, followed up its launch in August this year...press conferenceAfter briefly teasing the launch of a gaming phone called "AYANEO Phone," the company has released a further teaser video about the product. The video confirms that the product is categorized under the "Remake" brand, which focuses on replicating classic devices, and will compete in the increasingly competitive mobile gaming market.
The trailer hints at the inclusion of physical shoulder buttons.
Although the trailer is quite blurry, some design details of the AYANEO Phone are still visible. It appears to be a standard rectangular phone with dual cameras in the upper left corner. Most importantly, a fleeting glimpse in the trailer shows what appears to be physical shoulder buttons on the top of the device (where the L/R buttons would be on a handheld console) when held horizontally.
It may adopt a side-sliding design, paying homage to the Sony Xperia Play.
During its summer product launch event, AYANEO previously hinted that this phone would have a "slide-out" design. Given the brand's "Remake" positioning, it's speculated that the AYANEO Phone might be paying homage to the classic Sony Xperia Play, employing a side-sliding design to hide the full game controller beneath the screen.
Challenging mainstream gaming phone design
It's not surprising that AYANEO is venturing into the mobile phone market, given that many of its handheld gaming consoles already use customized versions of the Android system.
However, most mainstream gaming phones, such as the ASUS ROG Phone or Redmagic's gaming phones, choose to offer physical controllers as "accessories" rather than integrating them into the device. If the AYANEO Phone chooses to "go against the trend" and introduces built-in physical gaming buttons, it will undoubtedly provide a completely different hardware option in the gaming phone market.
Considering Ayaneo's existing handheld console pricing strategy, the AYANEO Phone is not expected to be cheap. As for whether it will be launched in overseas markets such as the United States, there is currently no confirmed information.
