AWS earlier announced the official launch of the Asia Pacific (Taipei) region service (codenamed ap-east-2), becoming AWS's first regional data center launched in Taiwan. This will meet customers' data local storage needs and help promote the growth of network service applications in Taiwan.
Before this, AWSalreadyIn 2014, two Amazon CloudFront edge nodes were launched in Taiwan, and the first AWS Direct Connect site was opened in Taipei in 2018. In 2020, the fully managed solution AWS Outposts was launched, and the Local Zone (AWS Local Zones) was subsequently enabled in Taipei in 2022, enabling AWS customers in Taiwan to provide network services with only single-digit millisecond latency.
The newly launched Asia Pacific (Taipei) regional service consists of three availability zones, each of which has independent power, cooling systems, and physical security measures. It also ensures high availability and fault tolerance through redundant, ultra-low latency network connection resources.
Currently, the Asia Pacific (Taipei) regional service provides 61 cloud services, covering basic services such as computing, storage, network and database. In the future, it will gradually introduce more advanced artificial intelligence application service platforms such as Bedrock and SageMaker.
As part of its long-term commitment to Taiwan, AWS previously stated that it plans to invest billions of dollars in the Taiwanese market over the next 15 years to support the construction, connectivity, operation and related maintenance of new regions. It will also be committed to cultivating local talent through projects such as AWS Academy, AWS Educate and AWS Skill Builder to help students, developers and professional technicians improve their cloud skills.
Companies in Taiwan, including Acer, Cathay Financial Holdings, Chunghwa Telecom, Gamania, Koko Technology, Maicoin, TSMC, and Trend Micro, have chosen to use AWS services, while AWS Taiwan partners include Quankai International, eCloudvalley Group, Going Cloud, Midat, Netcom Information, and Bohong Cloud.
