After announcing last year that all new commercially available cars, trucks, and buses would be required to be equipped with AEB braking, ELKS lane keeping, driver fatigue warning, and ISA automatic speed limit assistance systems, relevant laws have been implemented in the EU.Officially effective.
As previously stated, the EU will require all car manufacturers to equip cars sold after 2024 with relevant safety features, so it is expected that the prices of cars sold in the EU market will also increase.
According to the European Transport Safety Committee (ETSC), this regulation mainly regulates commercially available cars, trucks, and buses, and does not include motorcycles operated in different ways.ISA Intelligent Speed Limit Assist SystemThe operation will be assisted by cameras, GPS positioning, etc. Once it is determined that the vehicle speed exceeds the speed limit of the current road section, the warning light will be lit through the dashboard and the driver will be reminded through a warning sound. The system will also intervene in the engine output later and reduce the speed to the prescribed speed limit.
The EU expects this new regulation to reduce the proportion of vehicle accidents on the road, while also further reducing illegal speeding. It can even reduce the proportion of traffic accidents by 30% and the proportion of casualties by 20% through the ISA intelligent speed limit assistance system.
However, some in the market believe that adding these safety features will increase vehicle production costs, which will be passed on to consumers through vehicle prices, potentially impacting future vehicle sales. Many are also skeptical about whether vehicle assistance systems can actually improve traffic conditions, as vehicle warning systems may still not be able to address poor driving behavior, and ultimately these systems may become merely routine inspections.
Currently, car manufacturers including Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Mercedes, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo have launched models that support ISA automatic speed limit and other assistance systems, but these models may only be sold in the European market.
