After a recent teaser, ASUS has finally unveiled the ROG Phone 8 series, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1+ Gen 6 processor. The series will include the standard ROG Phone 6 and the upgraded ROG Phone 6 Pro. The Ultimate model wasn't announced at the same time, but it's likely to be revealed sometime in the second half of the year.
The Ultimate model is expected to be released later
The updated ROG Phone 6 series includes the standard ROG Phone 6 and the upgraded ROG Phone 6 Pro. The Ultimate model was not released simultaneously, but is expected to be released in the second half of the year to attract more gaming users.
The overall design still maintains the "Cyberpunk" style elements, and the back lighting of the standard model can only illuminate the ROG logo and the "Dare to Play" slogan on the back. Only the ROG Phone 6 Pro is equipped with the ROG Vision built with a POLED panel and can customize the display content. The design is basically the same as the ROG Phone 5 series launched last year.
The main difference between the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro lies in the different back cover designs. The ROG Phone 6 is available in black and white, and is available with 12GB or 16GB of memory, and 256GB or 512GB of storage capacity. The ROG Phone 6 Pro is only available in white, with 18GB of memory and 512GB of storage capacity.
As for other specifications, both use a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED display with a resolution of 2448×1080, supporting a 165Hz frame refresh rate and a 1ms display response time. They also use Pixelworks imaging chips to improve the display effect. At the same time, the touch response rate can reach up to 720Hz, and it also supports constant HDR display effects. It still uses a full display block design and is equipped with an under-screen fingerprint recognition function.
Enhance hardware and performance
In terms of hardware design, the processor uses Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and the heat dissipation mechanism has also been enhanced. This time, through a three-stage heat dissipation structure and the central placement of the processor, the internal heat of the phone can be more efficiently and evenly distributed, thereby maintaining stable performance when the phone is running games.
As for the operation part, ROG Phone 6 is also equipped with an ultrasonic button design on the side of the body, and adds press and slide operation gestures, as well as holding down the ultrasonic button to aim by tilting the body, or changing the operation mode of viewing angle. It can even cooperate with the built-in gyroscope function of the phone to add operation methods such as horizontal movement, tilt, rotation, or shaking the phone.
When used with the newly released external active cooling fan AeroActive Cooler 6, four additional physical buttons can be added, and button definitions can be set through the built-in Armoury Crate interface, allowing users to operate more intuitively during gaming.
As for heat dissipation through AeroActive Cooler 6, it can reduce the temperature by up to 25 degrees. As the fan itself is powered by the mobile phone, it is best to use it with external charging, otherwise the power consumption of the mobile phone will increase significantly.
Added IPX4 level of water resistance, and the camera finally has some changes
As for the battery design, it is the same as the ROG Phone 5. It is also composed of two sets of 3000mAh batteries with a total capacity of 6000mAh. It also supports 65W wired fast charging. At the same time, the bottom and side of the body can be connected for charging, but there is still no wireless charging design. However, this time it finally adds IPX4 level splash-proof design, and also supports NFC induction communication function.
In addition, the operation part can also be set up to use the mobile phone as a desktop by connecting a mouse, keyboard and screen. In conjunction with the Armoury Crate interface, hardware performance output, command macros, lighting effects and other functions can also be set.
There are some changes in the camera, including the main camera wide-angle lens changed to 5000 million pixels and Sony IMX766 sensor, and the video lens changed to 1200 million pixels and Sony IMX663 sensor design. However, the ultra-wide-angle lens and macro lens, both of which are 1300 million pixels, and the main shooting functions have not changed much.
