Leica announced that Japan's ASTRODESIGN and South Korea's SAMYANG Optics have joinedL-Mount Adapter Alliance, becoming the sixth and seventh members of the alliance.
The L-Mount Alliance was founded in 2018 by Panasonic, Leica, Sigma, and other industry players. Current members include Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH and DJI, as well as ASTRODESIGN and Sanyo Optics, which have recently announced their membership.
The L-Mount adapter was developed by Leica and first launched in 2014 alongside the Leica T-System cameras. It has now become the adapter design standard adopted by the L-Mount Alliance, allowing more companies to create camera and lens products using this adapter system, while also allowing them to be used interchangeably, thereby expanding the application range of the L-Mount adapter.
The L-Mount adapter features a 51.6mm diameter design and can be used with either full-frame or APS-C format cameras. Its flange focal distance of only 20mm shortens the distance between the lens and the sensor, allowing for a more compact design and facilitating wide-angle lens applications.
In addition, the L-Mount adapter is made of high-quality, wear-resistant stainless steel and is equipped with four sets of flange-back fixing elements to prevent interface deflection, while ensuring that the lens and camera are correctly and tightly connected, and further ensuring correct data transmission between the lens electronics and the camera.
Currently, there are 12 cameras compatible with the L-Mount adapter, and a total of 60 lenses compatible with this adapter. They can be used interchangeably without the need for adapters and without any functional restrictions.
