Apple earlier announced its third-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2022, with revenue reaching $829.59 billion, a 2% increase year-over-year, and net profit reaching $194.42 billion, an 11% decrease year-over-year. Of this total, iPhone sales reached $406.65 billion, Mac sales reached $73.82 billion, iPad sales reached $72.24 billion, wearables, home devices, and peripheral accessories sales reached $80.84 billion, and services sales reached $196.04 billion.
Judging from the sales and profit performance of various regions, the North American and European markets still maintained a slight growth, but the sales performance of the Greater China and Japanese markets showed a decline. The sales in the Asia-Pacific market showed growth, which may be related to the recent continued strengthening of the development of the Indian market. The decline in the Chinese market is related to the continuous launch of new products by Chinese mobile phone brands to divide the market.
Furthermore, judging by product sales performance, the iPhone remains Apple's primary profit generator, but overall sales of Macs and iPads have declined, likely due to a decline in the proportion of replacements for work-related needs. Apple is expected to attract more students through its new Back to School (BTS) program, thereby boosting Mac and iPad sales. Furthermore, sales of smart wearables and home devices have also declined, likely due to reduced demand.
As for the service projects, they continue to grow and may become one of Apple's main profit sources in the future.
In response to market rumors that Apple is slowing its external hiring, Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized that Apple is being more cautious in its external recruitment efforts, but is by no means slowing down. For example, Apple will soon open a new R&D center in Jerusalem, Israel, to develop chips for future Macs, and is expected to recruit a large number of engineers there.
When asked whether it would be possible to invest in acquiring Netflix to strengthen the richness of Apple TV+ content, Tim Cook simply replied that he did not rule out acquisitions for specific purposes, and emphasized that acquisitions would not be made for the sake of acquisitions, nor would acquisitions be made to increase revenue. Therefore, Netflix would not necessarily be acquired to strengthen content.
