Reuters news report claimsApple plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the previous local court ruling that Apple must allow certain apps to make payments through third-party transaction channels.
Prior to this, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had previously ruled against Apple and Epic Games.Making a ruling, believing that Apple did not violate the monopoly, and therefore upheld the previous court ruling. However, the court previously ruled that Apple's restriction on different transaction methods harmed consumer rights, and finally forced Apple to allow certain apps to make payments through third-party transaction channels.
Apple's attorney stated in the appeal document that the court's ruling went beyond the scope of the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games, and also went beyond the jurisdiction of the local court. Therefore, they hoped that the Supreme Court would rule that the previous ruling by the local court was invalid.
However, since the new EU law also requires Apple to allow iOS device users to obtain App content through third-party software markets before 2024, even if Apple successfully reverses the previous local court ruling through appeal, it will eventually have to face the situation where its App Store business model must be adjusted.
