As the successor to the Vision Pro continues to advance, Apple recently filed a lawsuit, accusing former senior product design engineer Di Liu of leaving the company without informing the company that he was transferring to a competing company, Snap, and of allegedly downloading large amounts of confidential information to a private cloud with the intention of providing it to his new employer.
According toSiliconValley.com website reportsDi Liu previously worked at Apple for seven years, most recently as a design engineer on the Vision Pro project. Apple noted that Di Liu had resigned due to personal and family reasons, but did not disclose that he had already accepted an offer from Snap. His new role would be similar to his previous position at Apple, involving the development of similar AR wearable devices.
Snap is currently advancing itsSpectacles, the fifth-generation AR glasses productAlthough the positioning of the R&D is not exactly the same as that of Vision Pro, both belong to the category of mixed reality wearable devices. Therefore, Di Liu's switch to Snap and the fact that he took away a large amount of confidential information still made Apple believe that he had leaked internal secrets.
The lawsuit alleges that Di Liu downloaded thousands of confidential documents and design materials using an internal account and uploaded them to a private cloud storage space three days before his resignation. He also deleted some data from his work laptop, apparently in an attempt to cover up his tracks.
Apple filed a lawsuit this time, asking the court to order Di Liu to return the relevant information and hand over all personal devices and cloud accounts that may store Apple's internal confidential information to facilitate further forensic investigation. It will also seek an undisclosed amount of damages.
Snap responded that it is aware of the relevant litigation in this case, but there is no reason to believe that these allegations are related to Di Liu's position or behavior at Snap.
