It will also increase the starting salary for most jobs and add severance pay and other clauses to protect their work rights and interests. At the same time, it will also establish fair and clear management processes and a new employee protection and accountability system.
The agreement was brokered by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM CORE), a union of retail employees, and Apple Store Towson Town Center staff are expected to vote on August 8 to decide whether to accept the three-year agreement.
In June 2022, Apple Store Towson Town Center staff voted to form a union with 6 votes in favor and 65 votes against, becoming the first Apple Store to form a union by staff themselves.
Apple previously stated that it does not want employees to form a union, believing that this would create a conflict between employees and the company and hinder subsequent communication. Meanwhile, Apple recently emphasized that it has adjusted salaries for Apple Store workers and ensured their work rights.
However, many employees said that their current salaries are unable to keep up with the rate of increase in living costs, such as prices. They also believe that the company's overall market value and revenue growth performance are not actually reflected in employee salary increases.
