In response to the recent controversy surrounding the scratches on the iPhone 17 Pro display model, Apple respondedMost of them are transfer marks from the MagSafe charging display standAfterwards, it has quietly made corresponding adjustments in its retail stores.
According to 9to5MacReportApple has already asked its retail stores to replace worn MagSafe charging displays and has introduced improved designs in some new stores. For example, the recently opened Ginza flagship store in Tokyo now features an additional silicone ring around the metal edge of the MagSafe charging display to reduce direct friction between the phone and the metal, preventing scratch marks.
For display devices that have already developed marks, simply replacing the MagSafe charging display seems to be insufficient to completely resolve the issue. Therefore, Apple has instructed Apple Store employees to adjust their daily cleaning procedures, using a specific cleaning solution mixed with a salt solution to regularly clean the back of the display devices to reduce the remaining marks.
Although Apple has not disclosed the formula of the cleaning solution, media experiments have found that mixing water and sea salt can effectively remove marks on the display machine.
However, this mark issue isn't unique to the iPhone 17 series. Similar issues have also occurred with iPhone 16 series models previously displayed in stores, seemingly due to the MagSafe charging display. For the average consumer, this issue is unlikely to occur during daily use, so there's no need to worry.
Since the iPhone 17 series launched, however, the outside world has been scrutinizing its new design. For example, whether the updated back glass and camera module design can balance aesthetics and practicality remains a hot topic among users. Apple's swift response and immediate adjustments to its retail display demonstrate its commitment to both the consumer experience and its brand image.
