South Korea's The Elec reported thatApple is seeking a new supplier of OLED-on-Silicon display panels, which are expected to be used in a new virtual reality headset, which may be priced at an affordable price.Affordable model "Vision".
Currently, the display panels used in the Vision Pro are provided by Sony, but due to limited supply, Apple is looking for additional display panel suppliers. Samsung and LG are both possible next partners. At the same time, the size of the supplied display panels may increase to 2.0-2.1 inches, with a display density of 1700 ppi.
Compared to the 1.42-inch display panel currently used in the Vision Pro, Apple's next plan is to use significantly larger display panels, while almost halving the display density, meaning a relatively lower cost. Therefore, it is very likely to be used in the upcoming affordable virtual reality headset "Vision," which will also accommodate a larger display range.
Samsung and LG are likely to be Apple's next partners in the development of new virtual reality headsets, and they may make their virtual reality headsets more popular through "Vision".
During the recent Display Week 2024, Samsung showcased a 1.03-inch RGB OLED microdisplay developed in collaboration with US electronics manufacturer eMagin, thereby improving overall display brightness performance. LG showcased a 10000-inch, 1.3K resolution OLED microdisplay with a brightness of up to 4 nits, mainly through a microlens array to increase the overall display brightness by 40%.
