Apple, Meta and ByteDance earlier responded to the EU's proposal to impose a digital markets law on their service platforms.Seen as a "gatekeeper"Microsoft and Alphabet have protested, but they appear to have accepted the EU's decision.
The EU has previously included six companies, including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta and Microsoft, on the "gatekeeper" list, but did not include Samsung, whose mobile phone products have a considerable market size.
According to the EU's explanation, businesses included in the "gatekeeper" list cannot restrict users to their own products or services, and must even allow third-party businesses to access their resources to avoid forming a market monopoly.
Meta questioned the inclusion of its Marketplace and Messenger services on the list, but did not dispute the inclusion of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. ByteDance emphasized that TikTok is merely a social media platform and does not meet the EU's criteria for "gatekeeper" designation.
However, Microsoft and Alphabet did not object to the EU's determination. Although Apple also protested the EU's determination, it did not provide specific details of the objection.
