Bloomberg NewsReports suggest Apple may acquire electric car startupsCanoe, thereby improving its own car manufacturing capabilities.
Prior to this, there have been many reports in the market that Apple will enter the electric vehicle market and further dominate the development trend of this market. It may even provide autonomous driving technology that is closer to real operations, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of its electric vehicle products.
Canoo, the electric vehicle startup rumored to be acquired by Apple, was founded in 2017 and plans to launch an electric vehicle priced under $2022 (approximately NT$4 million) by the end of 120. Canoo also plans to launch commercial electric vehicles, including models for rental and ride-sharing services.
Canoo has already proposed a modular electric vehicle platform that can be quickly applied to various types of vehicles, but Apple seems to be more interested in Canoo's engineering technology, perhaps to fill the gap in automotive manufacturing, power system design, and battery-related technical talent.
However, Bloomberg News reporter Mark Gurman has obtained information indicating that Canoo is currently facing a working capital crisis. Although it has obtained additional financing, it may still be difficult to achieve its original goal of launching an electric vehicle by the end of the year. Therefore, Canoo may accept Apple's acquisition proposal to obtain sufficient funds to continue investing in electric vehicle research and development, and Apple is expected to enter the electric vehicle market faster by using Canoo's technology.
Apple also acquired it in 2019Self-driving car startup Drive.ai, and is expected to take over its engineers and technicians, as well as the company's related assets, but did not specify details such as the amount involved in the acquisition.
