Apple announced the launch of a development toolkit for its Vision Pro virtual reality headset and visionOS operating system to help developers create richer spatial experiences.
Currently, relevant development tools can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Program website. After logging in with the Apple account that you applied to register as a developer, you can obtain Vision Pro, visionOS development-related technical documents, tool kits and other resources.
VisionOS allows users to interact with virtual content through natural and intuitive methods such as eyes, gestures, and voice. The development tool kit launched by Apple this time allows developers to easily create application services corresponding to Vision Pro.
At the same time, Apple will set up developer labs in Cupertino, California, USA; London, UK; Munich, Germany; Shanghai, China; Singapore and Tokyo, Japan in July, allowing developers to actually test their development content on Vision Pro and get direct assistance from Apple engineers to use the development tool set to quickly build, iterate and test apps on Vision Pro.
Developers can use existing Apple platform infrastructure frameworks such as Xcode, SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKit and TestFlight to create new content experiences that leverage Vision Pro features to provide "windows" with depth that can present 3D content, "stereo" that creates experiences that can be viewed from any angle, and "room" that allows users to be fully immersed in a boundless 3D content environment.
To help developers optimize 3D content for visionOS apps and games, Xcode has added a new tool called Reality Composer Pro, which allows developers to preview and prepare 3D models, animations, images, and sounds so that design materials can be beautifully presented on Vision Pro.
Developers can also test app content interactions in the visionOS simulator to explore various spatial layouts and lighting conditions. Each developer framework has built-in support for Apple Accessibility features to ensure smooth use of spatial computing technology and visionOS apps.
Starting next month, developers who build 3D content apps and games using Unity will be able to port their apps to Vision Pro for use.
