Apple today (January 13th) announced a new subscription package called "Apple Creator Studio," which not only integrates Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, familiar to professional videographers, but also includes...Pixelmator Pro, a powerful image processing toolAnd for the first time, it includes services on the iPad platform. In addition, subscribers can unlock advanced AI features in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers.
The service is expected to officially launch on January 28, with a monthly price of NT$390 or an annual subscription price of NT$3900 in Taiwan. It aims to challenge Adobe Creative Cloud's position in the creator market with a highly competitive price.
A "family meal" of audio-visual entertainment, video, and productivity.
The core concept of Apple Creator Studio is "one-stop creation." With a subscription, users will have unlimited access to the following software and services:
• Video Clips:Final Cut Pro (Mac/iPad), Motion, Compressor.
• Music Production:Logic Pro (Mac/iPad), MainStage.
• Image Design:Pixelmator Pro (Mac/iPad).
• Productivity AI:Advanced AI features and content library for Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform.
Pixelmator Pro debuts on iPad
One of the highlights of this update is the release of an iPad version of Pixelmator Pro. This highly acclaimed photo editing software for Mac has been fully optimized for iPadOS, adding support for Apple Pencil's hover, squeeze, and double-tap functions, and providing the same powerful editing tools as the Mac version, such as smart selection, layer management, and ultra-high resolution zoom.
Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro Add AI Upgrades
Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, the main tools for creative work, have also received a large number of AI-based feature updates:
Final Cut Pro:
• Transcript Search:Search directly for conversation clips to find more content, making interview editing faster.
• Visual Search:Search for objects or actions in the scene (such as "beach" or "running") to locate the material.
• Montage Maker (iPad exclusive):Using AI to automatically analyze footage, it can edit dynamic videos that match the rhythm of music in seconds.
Logic Pro:
• Synth Player:Join the AI Session Player lineup, an AI-powered virtual synthesizer player.
• Chord ID:It automatically analyzes the chord progressions of audio files and converts them into MIDI tracks.
iWork Gets Smarter: Generative AI Takes Center Stage
For document processing needs, Apple Creator Studio subscribers will gain additional AI superpowers in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. This includes generating high-quality images from text (using OpenAI model technology), intelligent cropping suggestions, and automatically generating presentation drafts from text outlines. In addition, subscribers can access the Content Hub to use high-quality, royalty-free materials.
Subscription vs. Buyout
Apple has adopted a flexible sales strategy, designing Apple Creator Studio as a subscription model, priced at NT$390 per month or NT$3900 per year, with a student education price of NT$90 per month.
However, for long-time users who prefer to "buy outright," Apple still retains the option to purchase Mac software separately (for example, Final Cut Pro will remain priced at NT$9990, and Logic Pro at NT$6990). However, the iPad versions of the apps and the advanced AI features of iWork are mostly bundled with the Apple Creator Studio subscription service.
Analysis of viewpoints
In the past, creators who wanted to use editing, photo retouching, and audio software simultaneously often needed to subscribe to the expensive Adobe Creative Cloud (a complete package costing over NT$1680 per month). Apple Creator Studio, with its disruptive price of NT$390 per month, covering Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and the recently acquired and integrated Pixelmator Pro, offers incredibly high value for creators using the Mac/iPad ecosystem.
The addition of Pixelmator Pro and its iPad availability, in particular, completes the final piece of the puzzle in Apple's native ecosystem: "graphic design/photo editing." Retaining the Mac version's one-time purchase model while simultaneously implementing a subscription model is a smart approach that balances the sentimentality of existing users with the barrier to entry for new users.
Furthermore, Apple presents its AI features and content library as subscription-based "value-added services," similar to Microsoft's Copilot Pro strategy. It's clear that future software competition will shift from simple "tool functionality" to a battle of "AI-assisted efficiency" and "cross-platform integrated experience."
As for students, the fact that they can use Hollywood-level editing and recording software for NT$90 per month will undoubtedly lower the creative threshold and further solidify Apple's moat in the education and creative markets.
