According to a report by Bloomberg News reporter Mark GurmanRefers toApple appears to have abandoned the Mac Pro. This most powerful workstation in Apple's arsenal, which was only updated with the M2 Ultra processor in 2023, may not see any further updates in the near future.
The M4 Ultra processor plan has been cancelled; the M5 Ultra will be exclusive to the new Mac Studio.
Mark Gurman points out that Apple not only canceled the planned development of the M4 Ultra processor, but also the Mac Pro update that was originally expected to be equipped with this chip.
Therefore, Apple's next Ultra-level processor will be the M5 Ultra, and it is only planned for use in the new Mac Studio, meaning that a new Mac Pro may not appear in the product update plan for 2026.
Internal stance: Mac Studio is the future of professional desktop computers.
Mark Gurman further cited internal Apple sources, stating that Apple internally believes Mac Studio represents the "present and future" of its professional desktop strategy. This includes Mac Studio's high-performance computing capabilities, while also being built in a smaller form factor, allowing for more flexible deployment in many application scenarios compared to the Mac Pro, thus making it more valuable for continuous updates.
While Apple hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of a new Mac Pro update, given its current product strategy,M2UltraVersionMac ProThis will likely be the last model in this product line. For professional users who require extreme performance, Mac Studio has clearly become the only product Apple has planned for this need.
