The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has already approved Apple's AirPods Pro 2 software update.Hearing assistance featuresIt can be used as an assistive hearing device without the need for professional certification, prescription payment, or fitting by a dedicated person.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the hearing assistance function added by Apple to AirPods Pro 2 via software did not cause any discomfort in relevant test results. At the same time, it does have a certain degree of function of amplifying sound or helping to hear conversations in noisy environments. Therefore, it approved its practice of using software updates to allow users to use AirPods Pro 2 as a hearing assistance device.
Apple's hearing assistance function is built through 15 real audiograms and more than millions of simulation training sessions. It can be used with AirPods Pro 2 as an assistive listening device, allowing hearing-impaired users to hear the conversation partner's statements or the surrounding environmental sounds more clearly.
This feature is expected to be added to iOS 9, which will be officially released on September 16, and will allow users to perform hearing tests on iPhone or iPad devices paired with AirPods Pro 18. When the earphone earbuds are firmly fitted into the ear canal, the user's actual hearing in the left and right ears will be determined through relevant operating procedures. The relevant test results will be stored in the Health App, allowing users to judge personal hearing changes after a period of time, or submit the test results to doctors and others for professional evaluation.
However, the hearing assistance function currently provided in iOS 18 is only for people with mild or moderate hearing loss. If there is severe hearing loss, Apple recommends seeking professional evaluation and using professional assistive devices to help improve hearing.
In addition to the United States, Apple plans to launch this feature in more than 100 countries and regions around the world, allowing more hearing-impaired users to clearly hear conversations with their loved ones or the sounds of the surrounding environment through Apple products.
