Earlier in the keynote presentation for developers during Google I/O 2025, Google confirmed that the Android 16 version will includeMaterial 3 Expressive design language interface, a new version of the desktop function will be added, and the related interface will be developed in cooperation with Samsung.

According to Google, the interface design of this desktop function is derived from Samsung DeX, which Samsung has added to its flagship phones. It can be displayed when the phone or tablet device is connected to a screen, allowing users to operate functions through a larger screen. It can also be used with a mouse and keyboard in a PC-like manner. Different apps can be operated in a multi-window format and the app window size can be adjusted. There is also a Dock-like interface below to place frequently used apps.
Similar features have actually been provided in the Android operating system in the past, but Google rarely mentions such features.
This was specifically mentioned during Google I/O 2025 to explain that the new version of the App interface in the Android 16 version adopts a dynamically adjustable design, so as to correspond to ordinary mobile phones, foldable screen phones, and even car systems, large-screen operations, or the upcoming Android XR platform (virtual visual head-mounted device) usage scenarios, allowing developers to make the App operation interface automatically correspond to screens of different sizes and forms through a single design.

Android 16 is expected to release its official version in June this year, and phones equipped with the new operating system may be announced as early as July this year.
