AMD announced earlierSecond quarter financial results for fiscal year 2022, of which revenue reached US$65.50 billion, an increase of 70% over the same period last year, and net profit reached US$4.47 million, a decrease of 37% over the same period last year.
In terms of profitability across business units, the data center business generated $14.86 billion in revenue, up significantly from $8.13 million in the same period last year, while the client business generated $16.55 billion in revenue, compared to $12.55 billion in the same period last year. Furthermore, the embedded business generated $12.57 billion in revenue, compared to $5400 million in the same period last year.
The main reason for the loss was related to the completion of the acquisition of Xilinx in February this year. The other business items in the financial report listed an operating loss of US$2 billion, while the operating loss in the same period last year was US$14.5 million.
However, AMD's revenue performance last quarter still exceeded market analysts' original expectations. Factors included an increase in the adoption rate of PC applications in the consumer market, an increase in its share of the server market, and the delayed launch of Intel's new server processors.
AMD expects full-year revenue for fiscal 2022 to reach $263 billion, a 60% increase compared to last year, with significant growth expected in its data center and embedded businesses.
