While participating in the Semicon India 2023 event, AMD Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster stated that the company will invest $5 million in India over the next five years and plans to establish its largest chip design center in Bangalore by the end of this year, thereby creating 4 new jobs.
In recent years, the Indian government has continued to promote the development of the domestic semiconductor industry and has used US$100 billion in funding to attract more semiconductor companies to set up factories in India. Currently, companies including Micron, Applied Materials, Lam Research, and even Foxconn have expanded their factories in India.
AMD currently has more than 6500 employees in India, and the chip design center expected to be established by the end of this year will increase AMD's office locations in India to 10. At the same time, Mark Papermaster emphasized that the Indian team will continue to promote high-performance computing solutions, including acceleration components for driving artificial intelligence computing.
In a recent statement, AMD also revealed that it is considering looking for foundries other than TSMC to help produce new processor products, thereby reducing the risk of relying solely on TSMC for production.
