During Gamescom 2023, AMD announced the launch of two graphics cards targeted at the mainstream gaming market: the Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT. Both graphics cards are designed to meet the needs of stable 1440P resolution and 60fps image output. Simultaneously, they also launched the new version of FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) super-resolution display technology, which uses a technology called AMD Fluid Motion Frame to improve frame rate performance. It is claimed that this can achieve frame rate correction effects similar to NVIDIA DLSS 3 without the need for special deep learning hardware design.
In terms of suggested retail price, the Radeon RX 7800 XT will be sold at US$499, and the Radeon RX 7700 XT will be sold at US$449. Both graphics cards are expected to be officially launched on September 9, and will be launched as OEM products by graphics card manufacturers including ASUS, ASRock, Biostar, and Gigabyte.
By launching two graphics cards this time, AMD has set its competitive target on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti-level products, mainly corresponding to 1440P, 60fps stable game screen output performance, and through the RDNA 3 display architecture and higher memory capacity configuration, combined with the new version of FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 super-resolution display technology, it improves the picture frame rate through Fluid Motion Frame technology.
With the launch of Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT, AMD said it will further fill the gaps in its current product line, and it also means that the Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card product line is complete.
In terms of specifications, both graphics cards use the RDNA 3 display architecture, and the display output is configured with the DisplayPort 2.1 specification. The Radeon RX 7800 XT uses 60 CUs, while the Radeon RX 7700 XT uses a 54 CU design. Each CU is equipped with a real-time ray tracing accelerator and two artificial intelligence computing accelerators.
The Radeon RX 7800 XT features 16GB of 256-bit graphics memory, while the Radeon RX 7700 XT has 12GB of 192-bit graphics memory. Regarding power consumption, the Radeon RX 7800 XT uses 263W, while the Radeon RX 7700 XT uses 245W.
The new FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology primarily enhances frame rate performance by adding AMD Fluid Motion Frame technology, emphasizing that it can achieve frame rate correction similar to NVIDIA DLSS 3 without requiring specialized deep learning hardware. Furthermore, the new technology also incorporates native anti-aliasing (Native AA) to provide greater visual detail.
In addition, AMD also stated that the previously launched FidelityFX Super Resolution and FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 technologies have accumulated more than 300 game applications or are about to be introduced, and the upcoming FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology is also expected to attract more games to use it.
The new technology will be first applied in the two games "Immortals of Aveum" and "Forspoken", and will be subsequently introduced in games including "Cyber Rebel 2077" and "Avatar: Pandora's Frontier". Even game companies including Square Enix, Ubisoft, SEGA, and CD PROJEKT RED will use this technology to create game content.
