During Computex 2019, the company officially unveiled its 7nm FinFET process and RDNA display architecture.Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cardsLater, AMD announced the launch of the new Radeon RX 5500 series, which also includes the Radeon RX 5500M for laptop products. It emphasized that it also uses the RDNA display architecture and is locked to a 1080P@60fps 3A-level gaming experience.

In terms of product positioning, the Radeon RX 5500 will essentially continue the Radeon RX 480's Polaris graphics architecture, but will offer a 480x improvement in performance per watt, a 1.6% increase in overall computing performance, and a 15% reduction in battery drain.

The Radeon RX 5500 used in the desktop version will be equipped with a single set of 8GB GDDR6 display memory, while the Radeon RX M designed for laptops uses a 4GB GDDR6 display memory design. Both correspond to 128-bit designs. The overall computing performance of the desktop version reaches 5.2 TFLOPS, while the laptop version is reduced to 4.6 TFLOPS due to different operating clock and voltage designs.

Whether designed for desktop or laptop use, AMD emphasizes that the Radeon RX 5500 series is designed to deliver a 1080p @ 60fps AAA gaming experience, even reaching a stable 3fps on laptops. With optimized drivers, AMD even reveals it will offer a 90fps improvement over the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650.

According to AMD, games including Fronite, Apex Legend, PUBG, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Red Six, and Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3, and Ghost Recon are currently optimized for Radeon RX 5500 series graphics cards.

In addition, the Radeon RX 5500 series graphics cards also support AMD FidelityFX image enhancement technology and AMD Anti-Lag anti-delay technology, making the game output clearer and reducing operation delay issues. They also support AMD FreeSync or AMD FreeSync HDR display technology.

The Radeon RX 5500 series graphics cards are expected to be released as AMD reference designs, with customized graphics cards expected to be released by OEM manufacturers in the fourth quarter of this year. At the same time, manufacturers including MSI will also launch laptop products using the Radeon RX 5500M graphics card.
