Amazon recently strengthened its Prime membership servicesSame-day delivery service, which will add retail product express delivery projects from clothing companies such as PacSun, Diesel and Superdry, as well as skin care product company GNC in 10 major cities in the United States. Prime members can enjoy free delivery with a purchase of only $25 or more, and same-day delivery service for less than $25 is only $2.99.
Just as Apple announced earlier the launch of a two-hour express delivery service in conjunction with Apple Stores in various regions, more and more US retailers are now starting to provide same-day delivery services. Amazon has provided this service for a long time, but it is only available in specific regions and is only an exclusive service for Prime members.
As the e-commerce market becomes more and more prosperous, more consumers hope to get their ordered goods faster. Therefore, Amazon and other industry players continue to think about how to speed up the efficiency of goods delivery.
Among them, Amazon has been promoting a delivery service called Amazon Flex since 2015, and it operates in more than 50 cities in the United States. Amazon couriers pick up goods from retail channels and deliver the goods directly to the consumer's designated location. The fuel, tolls, and vehicle maintenance expenses used in the delivery process are all provided by Amazon, and the cooperative drivers are paid on a piece-rate basis, with an hourly income of approximately US$18 to US$25.
On the other hand, Amazon recently announced that it will further reduce carbon emissions during the delivery process by increasing the introduction of Rivian electric trucks in cities such as Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, San Diego and Seattle, emphasizing that its own carbon emissions can be reduced thereby.
However, many people believe that as Amazon continues to strengthen its same-day delivery service or tries to shorten the time consumers have to wait for goods to be delivered, it will inevitably increase carbon emissions from Amazon's service processes. Even though Amazon claims it has reduced its carbon emissions by 1.9%, this may soon be filled again as demand for same-day delivery services increases.
The announcement of cooperation with more companies and the provision of local delivery services in 10 major cities in the United States is also expected to increase Amazon's emissions.
